Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital SLR Camera | Crutchfield Video
Zak: I've got the Canon Rebel T3i digital
SLR camera here, and it's the newest of the Rebel line. I actually have the oldest of the Rebel line
, the original from 2003 at home , still in working condition. I still use it from time to time. And so picking up this one was like getting
reacquainted with an old friend. It was easy to use right out of the box. It takes fantastic pictures, and if you want
to you can shoot hi-def videos with it.
First thing I noticed when I picked up the
Rebel T3i was how small it is. It's a very full featured camera that takes
interchangeable lenses, but after having it on my shoulder all day I barely even noticed
it was there. And it was even very easy to grip thanks to
its' contoured side here, and also this nice tacky grip material that they've put on here
so that it won't slip out when you're holding onto it. Perhaps my favorite thing about the T3i is
the main step up from the previous model is that the screen tilts and swivels wherever
you want it. That's really great if you're doing anything
on a tripod, or if you're doing some close up macro work, or especially when you shoot
video because unless you've got the camera right in front of your face you need to be
able to move that screen to where you can see it at a good angle.
And having that high-res tilt and swivel screen
is so valuable. And additionally you can turn it around while
you're walking and keep the screen protected. I really like the screen on this camera. You've probably heard that Hollywood and TV
studios have begun to use SLR cameras to shoot certain portions of their shows, and the reason
they do that is these cameras have a much larger image sensor that even top of the line
camcorders do.
That allows you to throw backgrounds way out
of focus and really draw attention to your subject. Also of course you can attach any number of
different lenses to the camera which gives you different effects. So you really have creative control over your
video project and the T3i can do all that. However you should keep in mind that it's
not quite the same as using a conventional camcorder. A camcorder can track focus on a moving subject. These cannot. But you can achieve some absolutely incredible
footage that you couldn't otherwise with just a little planning. And I'd recommend a tripod.
